Ersin Yılmaz, the principal of Cumhuriyet University Foundation Schools Private Mahir Sevim Özduman Middle School, provided advice to students who will take the High School Transition Exam. Yılmaz, who also gave advice to parents, said, ‘Parents should always make their children feel that they are by their side.’ On June 2, thousands of students will take the High School Transition Exam, and experts are offering advice. Emphasizing the importance of students who are experiencing exam stress to make good use of the remaining 2 weeks, Ersin Yılmaz, the principal of Cumhuriyet University Foundation Schools Private Mahir Sevim Özduman Middle School, said, ‘There are only a few days left until the exam. I wish all our students success. I hope that the exam will be a reflection of the effort and energy they have shown for a long time. I advise our students not to deviate from their routines in the remaining 2 weeks. We are at a point where we have done our best.’ General exam advice: Yılmaz stressed the need to solve practice exams during the remaining time, saying, ‘There may be subject-specific exams, or general exams. If there are wrong answers in these exams, they should go over them again with the guidance of their teachers. If there are topics they have not fully understood, they can review them. They should not deviate from their routines. As the days go by, the stress will reach its peak. Children will start feeling tired and fed up. We teachers and parents are always by their side, and there is always a shoulder to lean on. We believe that we can overcome this challenge together. Let them be strong, they have put in effort and they will reap the rewards.’ Yılmaz, mentioning that students taking the exam may experience an increase in stress, stated the following: ‘Stress may increase as time goes by, they may experience certain feelings. We will start this task by first believing in ourselves. We will set aside our negative biases. If we cannot handle this alone, we can seek support from our guidance counselor and parents. It is truly a difficult process. We seem to be burdening children with more than they can bear. Due to the fact that the exam is applied to their age group and is a single exam, children may feel stressed, but the subjects they face are not beyond their capabilities. Our problem is not academic, but rather the psychological process of the task. Here, we want them to continue the process in the same way they have brought it until now. It’s not a difficult task, they should trust themselves. If they condition themselves positively, they will be able to see how much life has changed more easily.’
