The ‘2nd Stakeholder Workshop’ on ‘Mobility in Ankara in 2040’ was held within the scope of the ‘SMART Ankara Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan’ carried out by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality EGO General Directorate. University representatives, relevant public institutions, non-governmental organizations, project experts, and private sector representatives participated in the workshop where panel and presentation discussions were held, as well as sharing of information and experiences on created scenarios and action plans.

The aim is to establish sustainable urban mobility strategies. The ‘SMART Ankara Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan’ aims to provide opportunities for stakeholders and the people of Ankara to be informed about the process, to give all target groups representatives a voice in decision-making processes related to sustainable mobility, and to jointly create sustainable urban mobility strategies. Out of 10 different sustainable transportation scenarios widely implemented worldwide, 6 different scenarios were selected. In the second stage of the workshop, panel discussions, presentations and debates, sharing of information and experiences on scenarios and action plans were conducted among groups.

‘We aim to make EGO the transportation authority of Ankara.’
Dr. Taylan Engin, the General Manager of EGO General Directorate, stated that they are trying to set a vision for sustainable mobility in Ankara, saying: ‘What should we do for Ankara, which scenarios should we focus on, what roles should we avoid as local government, and similar topics. Your opinions as stakeholders are very important to us. We serve approximately 1 million passengers daily in rubber-wheeled transportation and 500,000 passengers in rail systems. Our reason for using smart transportation systems is to make time more quality and efficient. We aim to make EGO the transportation authority of Ankara. We progress in this direction with all our efforts. In the end, we will continue to make all possible efforts to develop a quality public transportation service in Ankara that will make the people of Ankara satisfied and happy.’
