The Mayor of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality, Özlem Çerçioğlu, who expressed that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms revived the hopes of the Turkish nation in 1919, stated, ‘We will work tirelessly to advance the Republic of Turkey.’
Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu of Aydın Metropolitan Municipality issued a message on the occasion of May 19th, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Mayor Çerçioğlu, in her message, stated, ‘The independence fire ignited by our great leader, the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 105 years ago on May 19, 1919, in Samsun, still continues to burn in our hearts. In the occupied lands of Anatolia, under the leadership of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, an epic story was written to break the chains of captivity. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms revived the hopes of the Turkish nation by waging the greatest struggle for freedom that history has ever seen. The Turkish nation under the leadership of Atatürk signed a glorious epic with perseverance, determination, and courage on its journey that began in destitution. Describing the day he landed in Samsun, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, ‘I landed in Samsun in May 1919, with no material power in my hands. There was only a high and spiritual power born from the nobility of the great Turkish nation and filling my conscience. I started the work relying on this national power, this Turkish nation.’ We continue to carry the glorious legacy we inherited from Atatürk with all our might together with our youth, who are the hope of our bright tomorrows. We will work tirelessly to advance a modern, democratic, independent Republic of Turkey and look to the future with hope. On this occasion, I remember with mercy the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, and I extend my respect and gratitude.
