Representatives from the sister cities of Nilüfer, both domestically and internationally, who participated in the 22nd International Sports Festival of Nilüfer, came together at the organized gala night. Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir, expressing their happiness in bringing the youth together under the umbrella of sports, stated, ‘We see sports as an activity that enhances social peace and brotherhood.’ This year, the 22nd Nilüfer International Sports Festival, was attended by sister cities of Nilüfer from both within the country and abroad. The representatives of sister cities who competed with their basketball teams in the festival came together at the gala dinner held at Defne Davet. Present at the event were Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir, Members of the Nilüfer City Council, Vice Mayors, Acting District National Education Director of Nilüfer Mehmet Altınok, CHP Nilüfer District Secretary Elif Alp, President of Nilüfer Belediyespor Club Muharrem Or, and delegations from Nilüfer’s sister cities domestically and abroad including Dinar, Ardino, Balatonfüred, Braila, Hanau, Lublin, and Peja. Speaking at the opening of the program, Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir stated that these events are organized every year to maintain solidarity, cultural exchange, and the continuation of sports together with sister cities. Emphasizing that basketball competitions at the sports festival were held with the participation of sister cities, Özdemir said, ‘This period’s event, where 70 basketball players from 7 countries participated, also brought us great pleasure. In this 22nd edition of the event, 20,000 students are participating in 24 branches. We see sports as an activity that fosters social peace and brotherhood.’ Thanking the guests from Afyonkarahisar domestically and Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Germany, Hungary, and Kosovo internationally, Mayor Şadi Özdemir expressed that these events will continue, stating, ‘As the Nilüfer Municipality, we will always support our youth coming together here.’ Following the speeches, gifts were exchanged in memory of the day. Mayor Şadi Özdemir presented the symbolic key of Nilüfer to the representatives from Hanau, Germany, and Lublin, Poland, sister cities that have had sisterhood ties with Nilüfer for over 10 years. The night became colorful with the performance of the Nilüfer Folk Dance Group. The group, presenting dance shows, showcased games from different regions.
