Around 400 physicians and academicians from various cities of Turkey came to Samsun for the ‘3rd Black Sea Family Medicine Congress’. Hosted by Samsun University Faculty of Medicine, organized by the initiative of Turkey Family Physicians Association (TAHUD) Samsun, and with the participation of many physicians from different cities of Turkey, the opening ceremony of the ‘3rd Black Sea Family Medicine Congress’ was held. The congress, where nearly 400 physicians and academicians from various cities of Turkey gathered, will address the current conditions and clinical practices in family medicine under the main theme of ‘Family Medicine and Contemporary Medicine’, bringing up suggestions on aspects that need improvement. The main theme of the four-day congress is determined as ‘Family Medicine and Contemporary Medicine’. In line with the theme of ‘Family Medicine and Contemporary Medicine’, sessions consisting of oral presentations where family physicians will present their research will be held, and under the light of a rich scientific program, developments in health services at a dizzying pace by experts in the field will be examined in detail. Samsun University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Aydın, in his opening speech of the congress, stated that ‘Family medicine is one of the cornerstones of our healthcare system. Organizing this congress with the participation of young family physicians on this historical day, which marks the first step towards the independence of the Republic of Turkey and also falls on the Youth Week, carries great significance.’ Samsun Provincial Health Director Uzm. Dr. Mustafa Uras emphasized that family medicine is the only branch that accepts all patients and provides significant advantages in solving health problems. A first in Turkey, Professor Dr. Erdinç Yavuz, Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Samsun University and President of the 3rd Black Sea Family Medicine Congress, stated, ‘By discussing current treatment methods at the primary level of family medicine, we aim for our colleagues to follow these innovations. This year, we organized courses for the first time at our congress. The home health services course holds the distinction of being the first in Turkey. As in the last two congresses, a large number of scientific research and evaluations will be presented this year as well.’ Turkey Family Physicians Association (TAHUD) President Prof. Dr. Güzin Zeren Öztürk highlighted the importance of family medicine and the association’s activities. Following the opening speeches, the congress continued with scientific sessions. The 3rd Black Sea Family Medicine Congress will conclude on Sunday, May 19th.
