Turkan Tetik Children and Youth Library opened in Mugla

A children’s and youth library was opened in the Saburhane Square of Muğla in memory of Türkan Tetik, who lost her life in a tragic traffic accident years ago. During the opening ceremony, Türkan Tetik’s brother, Gürkan Tetik, and the Mayor of Menteşe, Gonca Köksal, made emotional speeches about the importance of the library.

Gürkan Tetik, Türkan Tetik’s brother, stated that the library is a valuable resource for all book lovers in Muğla, saying, ‘This library is not only a valuable resource for the Slowfoot Muğla Promotion Platform team, but also for all book lovers living in Muğla. Just like among students, the common language of the first humans is pictures. The purpose of extending the pictures of the cave wall paintings. After the value of the human being was understood, inventions increased in order to protect it and pass it on to future generations. Initially, books were written on stones, tablets, later shapes on fabrics, papyrus, and skins were written and turned into pages.’

Mayor Gonca Köksal emphasized that Türkan Tetik Children’s and Youth Library is a first as a civil initiative in Muğla. Mayor Köksal said, ‘The name of the late Türkan Tetik, whom we lost at a young age, will live on forever in this library. The children of our city will meet knowledge and the magical world of books in this library. Libraries have always been places and centers that shed light and brightness. Although our children spend their days in front of the television or on social media, I believe that they should spend maybe 1 hour, maybe half an hour alone with books. Libraries are very important for developing the reading culture of our children and young people. I believe that the Türkan Tetik Children’s and Youth Library will play a very important role in our children’s reading and socialization process, and will make a great contribution.’

The library, which has attracted great interest from the people of Muğla, will be an important cultural center especially for children and young people. This library opened to keep Türkan Tetik’s memory alive will make a significant contribution in terms of both education and social life.
