Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki announced that preventive measures are being taken against forest fires thanks to the Forest Fire Meteorological Early Warning System (MEUS) developed by the General Directorate of Meteorology.

How Does MEUS Work?

MEUS is based on an algorithm that identifies areas at risk of forest fires using temperature, wind, precipitation, humidity, and slope maps. Instantly mapping areas with fire hazards, this system shares this information with relevant institutions to take necessary precautions.

Importance and Effective Use of MEUS

Minister Özhaseki stated that MEUS prepares forest fire danger maps using numerical weather forecast data. This information is shared with the General Directorate of Forestry and other relevant institutions to enable effective intervention and planning. MEUS helps prevent the spread of forest fires and assists in protecting green areas.

Emphasizing the active use of MEUS in combating forest fires, Head of the Research Department of the General Directorate of Meteorology Hakan Doğan highlighted the significant importance of the system in planning for fires that may spread to large areas.
