A New Family After the Disaster They Faced

The most destruction in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş occurred in Hatay, where about 25 thousand people lost their lives. The couple, Tarık Dayaklı aged 39 and Meyyada Dayaklı aged 38, living in Kuyulu Mahallesi in Antakya district destroyed by the earthquake, along with their 5 daughters, were caught in the earthquake in the same apartment. The Dayaklı couple lost their lives in the disaster of the century, while their 5 daughters managed to survive the earthquake. 42-year-old Dilber Dayaklı, who lost her parents, took care of the 5 daughters along with her husband.

Before the earthquake, Dayaklı, who had no daughters and had 4 sons, started mothering 9 children with the disaster of the century. The devoted mother, who always expressed her desire to have a daughter, relieved her longing for a daughter by adopting the 5 daughters of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

Celebrating Mother’s Day with her 4 children before the earthquake, Dayaklı is praised for her behavior and sincerity towards her nieces. The children warm the hearts by addressing their aunts as ‘mother’.

Children Adapting to the New Life

The children are experiencing the happiness of being protected and cared for by their aunts during this difficult period when their lives changed after the earthquake. Lana Dayaklı states, “We live with our aunt and uncle. Our days are going well. They are very good people. Our aunt became like our mother. We love them very much.”

Dilber Dayaklı, stating that she has healed her wounds with the 5 daughters, mentions that the children call her ‘mother’ and says, “I am very happy with them. I am healing my wounds with them. After the earthquake, my mother also got sick and passed away. I understand them very well. I am 42 years old. I am suffering so much. Their suffering is even greater. I am a motherly woman. We are always like this, we cannot be separated. We are together all day. They wanted to call me mother for two weeks. They have been calling me mother for two weeks. Sometimes they want to say aunt, sometimes mother. They can address me as they wish. It doesn’t matter to me.”
