An Unforgettable Pain on Mother’s Day: The Story of Meryem Duymaz, a Mother from Hatay

Meryem Duymaz, who lives in Güveççi Village in the district of Yayladağı in Hatay, is spending Mother’s Day with a heavy heart due to the great loss she experienced in the disaster of the century. In the earthquake that occurred on February 6, her son Taha Duymaz and 2 siblings lost their lives, breaking Meryem Duymaz’s heart into pieces.

In a statement made as Taha’s mother, Meryem Duymaz said, ‘Taha was a very precious son and was very fond of me. He used to bring me gifts on Mother’s Day, and we would celebrate this special day together,’ she said. Taha Duymaz had gained a large fan base on social media by sharing cooking recipes.

The grieving mother who lost 3 children in the disaster of the century said, ‘Umut, Melek, and Taha passed away in the earthquake. They lost their lives at their aunt’s house. Taha’s death deeply shook me. He never missed bringing me a gift on Mother’s Day. He had brought a bracelet in one Mother’s Day, a watch in another, and a dress in another. I remember those days with longing,’ expressing her feelings.

Meryem Duymaz, overwhelmed by tears as she talks about her sorrows, said, ‘May God not subject anyone to such pain. I cry at home thinking about the gifts Taha would bring me on Mother’s Day. His love and memories will always live in my heart,’ she said.
