The Director of Mersin Provincial Directorate of National Education, Fazilet Durmuş, visited Silifke Nuclear Energy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, established in the field of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Durmuş stated that 55 students are receiving education at the only Silifke Nuclear Energy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turkey.

During the visit to the school, which is the first vocational technical high school established within the framework of the protocol signed between the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and Akkuyu Nuclear Joint Stock Company to train qualified workforce in the nuclear field in Turkey, Durmuş met with Silifke Provincial Director of National Education Mustafa Sezgin, teachers, and students to receive information about the education activities.
Tasks Assigned to Students
Within the scope of the ‘Our School Entrusted to the Youth’ project, students of Silifke Nuclear Energy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School were assigned tasks for a day. The students who temporarily took on the roles of School Principal and Vice Principals at the entrance gate welcomed Durmuş and the accompanying delegation.
Provincial Director of National Education Durmuş moved to the principal’s office and received information about the school from student Cemre Nur Çevik, who acted as the principal for a day, and Vice Principals Orkun Alatepeli, Ece Karipoğlu. Then, she visited the classrooms, listened to the history teachers Ali Mavi and Rauf Bora Keskin, and addressed the students.
Saying, ‘As you know, in the Büyükeceli Neighborhood of Gülnar district of Mersin, we have the installation process of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey,’ Fazilet Durmuş stated, ‘Therefore, for the first time under the auspices of our governorship, a Nuclear Energy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School has been established in our province. Currently, we have a capacity of 60 students here, but we have 55 students. We admit these students to our school through an exam. Our students are in the construction field and in the Air Conditioning, Plumbing field. In the coming years, we will also carry out the student recruitment processes in the metal and machinery fields. Our students will also receive education in Russia. They are also receiving English and Russian language education. This is very valuable. Because we are making serious efforts in preparing our children for the future, which is one of the starting points of nuclear energy in our country.’
