Every year, the “Sait Faik Story Award,” organized in memory of the master writer Sait Faik Abasıyanık, has found its recipient. In this year’s 70th edition of the competition, the award was given to Barlas Özarıkça for his book “Hay.”
Jury and Award Process
The Jury, chaired by Doğan Hızlan, consists of Hilmi Yavuz, Nursel Duruel, Prof. Dr. Jale Parla, Beşir Özmen (Representative of Darüşşafaka Society), Metin Celal, and Jale Özata Dirlikyapan. The Jury decided to award the 70th Sait Faik Story Award to Barlas Özarıkça for his book “Hay,” published by Metinlerarası Kitap.
Sait Faik Story Award
- Established in 1955 by the writer’s mother Makbule Abasıyanık, the Sait Faik Story Award has been organized by the Darüşşafaka Society since 1964.
- Based on the will of Sait Faik’s mother Makbule Abasıyanık, a jury composed of leading literary figures selects the most successful and outstanding storybook each year to award the Sait Faik Story Award.
- Since 2012, the award has been organized in collaboration with Darüşşafaka Society and Turkey İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları.
- Last year, Ayşegül Devecioğlu was awarded for her book “Anatomy Lesson.”
