Peacocks underwent a rehabilitation process
Peacocks have been rehabilitated and restored to health. The challenges they faced during this process and their recovery stories are being told.

Peacocks seized in the back of a truck by gendarmerie teams in the district of Derecik in Hakkari have become permanent residents of the Van YYU Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Center, where they were brought for rehabilitation. Peacocks found in the back of a truck stopped on April 26, 2024, in Hakkari were brought to Van by the teams of the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks in Hakkari. Later on, the peacocks, brought for rehabilitation, were delivered to the Van Yuzuncu Yil University (Van YYU) Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Center, where all their care was provided.
Peacocks Started Living in the Center’s Garden
All conditions were made suitable for peacocks to live in the garden of the center. 5 peacocks freely roaming in the center’s garden were hosted here permanently. Prof. Dr. Lokman Aslan, the Director of the Van YYU Wildlife Conservation Rehabilitation Center, stated that they deal with all wildlife issues in the Van Lake basin. On the other hand, expressing that they work for the rehabilitation of protected animals, Prof. Dr. Aslan said, “Finally, by treating the peacocks caught in Hakkari and bringing them to us, we ensured their rehabilitation. We host them in our center; they added beauty here,” he said.
“We will host the peacocks here.” Emphasizing the importance of each animal’s origin, Aslan said, “Animals whose origin is unknown fall under the illegal and prohibited category. Citizens should not keep animals with unknown origins and should not hunt them during the hunting season. They may be fined for this. We will host the peacocks brought to us for rehabilitation here. Everything is ready here, they will continue to offer their beauty to us,” he said.
