Dust transportation coming from Africa and Syria has affected Mersin and reduced the visibility in the sea. Following the warning issued by the Meteorology Department, the dust cloud enveloped the city since yesterday evening. In Mersin, where the Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean have become invisible due to dust, some citizens took precautions by wearing masks.
In Erdemli district, where the dust cloud is effective, the rain at night covered the vehicles with mud stains. Restaurant owner Servet Cırık said, “Tables and vehicles are covered in mud, the impact of the dust is quite noticeable.”
Recep Gül, evaluating the situation, said, “The dust coming from Africa fills our faces, eyes, and mouths. There is not much we can do against this dust. The best thing is to use masks in these weather conditions.”
Veysel Babaoğlu, a tradesman, said, “There has been a dust cloud and mud for two days. That’s why I’m taking precautions by wearing a mask. I’m trying to help people by distributing free masks. All our vehicles are covered in mud. Hopefully, this situation will end soon.”
