Grandmother Hanife Öztürk’s Selflessness

At the age of 58, the grandmother at Izzet Baysal Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital takes great care of her 10-year-old grandson, who has cerebral palsy (CP) since birth. The self-sacrificing grandmother, who supports the grandson’s parents, said, “I am very happy when he smiles at me. When he smiles, the whole world becomes mine.”

Yusuf Ali Öztürk’s Condition

Yusuf Ali Öztürk, who has cerebral palsy (CP) since birth, was born in 2014. Ten-year-old Yusuf Ali, who has a 98% disability report, cannot walk, speak, or sit. Hanife Öztürk, the 58-year-old grandmother, showed a great example of sacrifice for her grandson who needs care.

Supporting His Parents

Describing the situation of Yusuf Ali Öztürk, who is one of three siblings, the self-sacrificing grandmother mentioned his mother’s lumbar disc herniation and his father’s work intensity. Hanife Öztürk, who tirelessly takes care of her grandson, expressed that there is no one else to look after him besides his parents. She said, “My grandson’s illness is cerebral palsy, brain paralysis. I have been taking care of my grandson since he was 3 years old.”

Grandmother’s Feelings

“I don’t have any difficulty while taking care of him. I take care of him with joy. He is my everything. I cannot live without him. I have become very attached, and he is also very attached to me. When I go to the market or bazaar, he keeps looking at the door until I return. When he stays with his mother, she called me saying, ‘mom, where are you, Yusuf Ali is not still,’ and called me back,” she said.

Sacrifice and Call for Support

“I am addressing grandmothers and grandmothers. Let’s also help our youngsters. These are very beautiful feelings. Yes, there is sorrow but there are also emotions. Completely different emotions. I used to have pain all over my body. Since I started looking after Yusuf Ali, I stopped feeling pain anywhere. I take care of him without getting tired or bored. I want to keep looking after him if necessary. As long as God gives me health and well-being,” she said.
