Traffic Week Event in Sultangazi

An event was organized in Sultangazi as part of Traffic Week to remind drivers to give priority to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings.

Within the scope of the event held at the intersection of Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Street and Atatürk Boulevard, which are busy streets of Sultangazi, students from Cebeci Sultançiftliği Primary School held signs with messages such as ‘Each year better in traffic’, ‘Pedestrians are our red line’, and ‘Traffic is life’ to draw the attention of drivers and remind them that pedestrian right of way should be respected. Sultangazi District Governor Mahmut Kaşıkçı, District Police Chief Alparslan Kırbaş, and Sultangazi Municipality Deputy Mayor Yakup Dalkılıç also attended the event.

Speaking about the event, Sultangazi District Governor Mahmut Kaşıkçı stated, ‘This week is Traffic Week. Our priority is to ensure the regular and safe passage of pedestrians, to ensure the safe flow of traffic, and at the same time to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians waiting on the roadside or sidewalk. We want to raise awareness about this issue. We want all people in traffic to stop and brake when they see pedestrians to ensure their safe passage. Therefore, all our units, all our security forces were in the field this week to raise awareness among pedestrians and inform our drivers. We also participated in one of these field programs together with the children. We conducted a practice together with the children based on our observations in the field. In the future, our activities, programs, and awareness-raising programs will continue. I want and expect all our drivers to drive more carefully, more safely, and to strictly adhere to traffic rules. Our priority is pedestrians, our priority is safe traffic. We are in the field to ensure this. We will continue to be in the field 24/7.’

Sultangazi Municipality Deputy Mayor Yakup Dalkılıç stated, ‘Sultangazi Municipality has a traffic education park. This traffic education park will be in its 6th year this year. With the instructions of our Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun, with the support of our district governor and district police chief, we bring 300 children to this traffic education park every day. They receive practical training here with small vehicles, as well as theoretical training. They acquire all the information about being a conscious pedestrian and driver through traffic education before they return home. Especially the rulers, the erasers, all have traffic signs on them. We also teach traffic signs to our children practically here.’
