Education Workers in Gümüşhane Protested Violence

The death of Ibrahim Oktugan, the principal of a private high school in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, as a result of an armed attack by a foreign student in Gümüşhane has caused great sorrow in the education community. This tragic incident was protested with a press release organized by the Education Bir-Sen Branch.
The press release held at Gümüşhane 15 July Victory Square was attended by Gümüşhane Memur-Sen and Education Bir-Sen Provincial President Ergin Aslan, teachers, and education community workers. Aslan drew attention to the increasing violence against education workers and demanded the enactment of legal regulations to prevent violence.

In his press statement on behalf of the crowd, Education Bir-Sen Provincial President Ergin Aslan said, “We have gathered to protest the increasing violence against education workers. We demand the implementation of legal regulations that will prevent violence, punish perpetrators, and provide legal protection to victims. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our school principal Ibrahim Oktugan due to the armed attack in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul. We expect steps to be taken to put an end to such violent incidents. We express our condolences to our colleague, pray for mercy from Allah, and extend our condolences to his family and the education community.”
