Building Deemed Unfit for Earthquakes Decided to Be Demolished
A building in Sarıyer, which has been in a rough construction state for 34 years and was planned to be converted into a residence, has been issued a demolition order due to being deemed unfit for earthquakes, leading to the halt of all activities at the construction site. Allegedly, the building in Hacıosman, which has been in a rough construction state for 34 years, had recently started completion construction to be transformed into a residence.
Demolition Decision Reached Following Inspection
Following complaints about the 27-storey rough construction building with a Bosphorus view, municipal teams initiated an inspection. After inspections conducted by the teams revealed that the building had corroded and was ‘unfit for earthquakes,’ a demolition decision was made. It was learned that municipal teams, including police officers, visited the building yesterday for inspection upon the decision of demolition.
For now, all activities at the building have been halted by the municipality, raising curiosity about when the building will be demolished. Salim Akın, who has been operating in Sarıyer for 20 years, stated, ‘It is said that construction started here in 1993, that’s what I know as well. A 34-year-old building. The construction would stop and resume from time to time. Finally, we heard from the contractor that they had reached an agreement with the property owners. They were planning to finish the building and sell it together. There were officials from the municipality coming and going from time to time. The construction was stopped and then resumed again. There was a rumor during Şükrü Genç’s last term that it was weak. I have guards who come in and out of this building. They were constantly coming and going here. I believe the columns of the building are more solid than the newly constructed ones. I don’t think there will be a demolition in the building. Yesterday, I heard that riot police buses and municipal officers came to demolish the building in a very crowded manner. When I arrived, I saw the crowd. I have been an operator here for about 20 years, and as far as I can see, the building is sturdy,’ he said.
