Ümmühan Keyif Koç, working as a special education teacher in Bursa, organized an event for her students in celebration of the Disabled Week from May 10 to 16, providing them with an unforgettable day. Koç, who designed clothes from recycled materials with students who have Down syndrome, autism, and intellectual disabilities, organized a fashion show at the Ördekli Cultural Center. Mentioning that she is also a mother of a special child, Koç said, “We are not different, we are all potential disabled individuals. Please see us as yourselves. Be more sensitive to us. A look from you affects us a lot,” she said.

“During the Disabled Week from May 10 to 16, we had a fashion show with my students using recycled materials. We had astronaut, lawyer, princess, and Turkish flag costumes. We have around 30 students but we dressed up 17 of them. As Mother’s Day was approaching, I gave a plaque to a parent. She comes from far away to bring her child. May God reward her efforts. I also gave gifts to other families. This way, we celebrated Mother’s Day. We are not different, we are all potential disabled individuals. Please see us as yourselves. Be more sensitive to us. A look from you affects us a lot. I am grateful to be a mother of a special child,” she said.
