Ahmet Sanrı, a 60-year-old resident of Edirne, has been living with an artificial heart device in his bag for 4 years after his heart failed to function properly following a heart attack. Sanrı, who works as a farmer in Karaağaç neighborhood, suffered a heart attack in 2016 and had the artificial heart machine connected in 2020.

Sanrı changes the batteries of the artificial heart machine once every 22 hours. The artificial heart machine attached to his body filters and pumps 4.5 kilograms of blood per minute, ensuring Sanrı’s survival.

A Fate Devoted to the Machine

Expressing that the machine is attached to his body day and night, while sleeping, waking up, or taking a shower, Sanrı emphasizes that the machine will stay in his body ‘until death.’ Referring to carrying his heart in a bag, Sanrı describes his experience with these words: ‘My body had swollen up to 150 kilograms. My feet swelled, and I couldn’t walk. I carry my heart in my bag. It’s constantly connected. The power went out, the batteries ran out of charge. And we were finished.’

Continuing with Normal Life

Experiencing the joy of returning to his normal life after surgery, Sanrı mentions that thanks to the artificial heart device, he can perform his routine tasks and continue with his life. The machine monitors his blood pressure, blood levels, and water levels in his body.
