Marmara Municipalities Union Council Meeting 2024
At the first ordinary meeting of the year 2024 of the Marmara Municipalities Union Council hosted by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel was elected as a committee member. Mayor Yüksel stated in his speech, ‘As Kartal Municipality, we have contributed to this platform and will continue to do so. We will work on joint projects and solutions, especially for street animals, zero waste, and urban transformation.’
Presidency Duty to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor
Following the 2024 Local Elections, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey was elected as the president by the votes of council members at the 2024 Year 1st Ordinary Council Meeting held in Istanbul on May 8, 2024 by the Marmara Municipalities Union.
The meeting hosted by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was attended by metropolitan municipality mayors, provincial municipality mayors, district municipality mayors, township municipality mayors, and council members in the Marmara Region. At the meeting where Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün was elected as the President of the Council, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey was unanimously elected as the President of the Marmara Municipalities Union.

In the election for committee memberships, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candan Yüceer, Bilecik Mayor Melek Mızrak Subaşı, Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz, Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel, Fatih Mayor M. Ergün Turan, Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz, and Lüleburgaz Mayor Murat Gerenli were elected as Marmara Municipalities Union Committee Members.
Evaluation from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor
‘I value the roof created by the Marmara Municipalities Union,’ said Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in his speech as the host before the presidential election. İmamoğlu expressed his appreciation for the Marmara Municipalities Union created with great efforts. Pointing out that the Marmara Region is smaller than 9th part of Turkey but one out of every 3 citizens of Turkey lives in the Marmara Region, İmamoğlu stated, ‘It has responsibilities as well as problems. The solution to the problems is not possible with individual skills or the skills of a district or city. In this sense, I value the roof created by the Marmara Municipalities Union. The work here is very valuable. I thank everyone who has worked so far. I also wish success to Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who was nominated jointly for the new term.’
Highlighting the contribution of the Marmara Municipalities Union to cities, Mayor Gökhan Yüksel said, ‘The Marmara Municipalities Union, led by our late mayor Mehmet Ali Büklü, is an important platform to produce common solutions to various problems of our cities. As Kartal Municipality, we have contributed to this platform and will continue to do so. We will work on joint projects and solutions, especially for street animals, zero waste, and urban transformation.’

Since 1975, the Marmara Municipalities Union has been developing solutions to common problems of municipalities, working on various topics such as environmental awareness, sustainable urbanism, migration, social cohesion, education, and supporting scientific studies.
