Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Orkun from the Department of Parasitology at Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine stated that there has been an increase in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) cases caused by ticks in April and May. Orkun provided important information on measures that can be taken against tick bites and the removal of ticks from the body.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orkun emphasized that ticks reach humans by walking on the ground, not by jumping or flying, and explained that they especially reach humans by hiding in agricultural areas and under vegetation. Orkun stated that ticks are fast and predatory, can track humans, and the tick species that is a vector for Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever is common throughout Turkey.
