Arrival in Konya and Convoy Welcome
Setting off from Izmir with his son on the Antique Cities tour with his 1936 model car, Cengiz Arsay arrived in Konya. Welcomed at the entrance of Konya on the Isparta highway by Konya Classic Car Association President Muammer Deveci and a convoy formed by classic car enthusiasts at Akyokuş location, Cengiz Arsay chatted with classic car enthusiasts for a while.
Car Details and Features
Cengiz Arsay’s classic car on the Ancient Cities tour is a 1936 model 88-year-old 1936 Ford Deluxe. The technologies of the time in this car include dual electric horns, cigarette lighter, ashtray, dual taillights at the back which are standard in today’s cars, in addition to ammeter and battery charge indicator, rear ashtray, clock, glove box lock, banjo-shaped steering wheels, and mahogany-patterned front panels of the Deluxe series.
Personal and International Goals
Explaining the main goals of the tour, Cengiz Arsay said, ‘We set off from Izmir and visited Turkey’s ancient and prehistoric sites and now we have arrived in Konya. Then we will continue to Çatalhöyük. We are antique car enthusiasts, we are their protectors. We want to show that these vehicles can also play an important role in such events. That’s why my son Ata and I personally organized this tour. But we hope that in the coming years, it will turn into an international tour. We wish for pre-World War II vehicles to come to Turkey and visit the values here. After Konya, we want to continue to Mardin via Ankara. I hope our car does not give us a hard time in this regard, but helps us. Because it is an 88-year-old 1936 model. So, we really need its help.’
Thank You from the President of Konya Classic Car Association
The President of Konya Classic Car Association, Muammer Deveci, said, ‘Cengiz Arsay is the leader of our hearts and the classic car class. He also has a Classic Car Museum. He is one of our oldest and pioneering friends in this business. Cengiz Bey is on the Ancient Cities tour. This is a special tour. I don’t know if it has been done before in Turkey. Cengiz Bey has organized an ancient cities tour with his 90-year-old car. The main purpose here is to promote the ancient cities of Turkey to the world and those interested in this field, rather than himself and his car. For this reason, I thank him.’
