Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Digital Media Commission Hüseyin Yayman’s Copyright and Digital Content Assessment
The views and suggestions of Hüseyin Yayman, the Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Digital Media Commission, on copyright and digital content evaluation are being discussed in detail.
Chairman of the TBMM Digital Media Commission, Hüseyin Yayman, emphasized the need for new regulations on copyright to protect the rights of content creators on digital platforms in Turkey.
Turkey’s Position and Responsibilities in the Digital World
Speaking at the commission meeting, Yayman stated that Turkey is one of the countries with the highest social media usage worldwide. He pointed out that this situation brings new responsibilities regarding digital content rights.
“We spend seven hours on the internet and three hours on social media. Turkey has a very young population and is one of the countries with a high level of technology adaptation. We use communication technology intensively, which ultimately makes us dependent on digital, creating an uncontrollable space.”
Yayman emphasized the need for new regulations on copyright with the increase in content sharing on digital platforms. He particularly mentioned serious issues regarding copyright with the increase in content sharing on platforms like Tiktok.
“Our Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works needs to be ‘updated’ with the digital concept; it needs to be restructured, updated. We need to renew the algorithm. In this regard, I think our Commission has a very important historical duty.”
According to Yayman’s statements, Turkey needs to review its role and responsibilities in the digital world in order for digital content creators to receive compensation for their work and for copyright to be protected.
