The young participants in the program exchanged ideas with Mayor Bingöl about environmental awareness. At the end of the event, Mayor Bingöl gifted saplings to the youth.
Mayor Bingöl stated, ‘There has been a significant increase in forest fires due to global warming. Especially in the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Marmara regions, it continues intensively. Our duty is to reduce carbon emissions, increase oxygen levels, and protect our forests to prevent global warming. We also need our forests to provide environments where people can connect with nature. Therefore, today we cleaned the polluting elements in our forest to strengthen the green to blue corridor in Tuzla even more. Shortly, we will distribute saplings to the youth.’
Bingöl continued, ‘The Forest is Mine campaign is a campaign that excites us as well. It is organized simultaneously in all districts in Turkey. As a local administration, we value it greatly, and we support its increase and development. In addition to today’s sapling distribution, we will launch a much larger afforestation campaign and mobilization.’
Mayor Bingöl emphasized that they plan to implement many projects to reduce the carbon footprint in Tuzla, saying, ‘We are planning serious efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Soon, we will meet with our industrial zones, shipyards, and producer actors in Tuzla, and plan how to reduce our carbon footprint.’
