Preparations for Tea Season Have Begun

Producers are eagerly awaiting the opening of the 1st Flush green tea campaign before the upcoming tea season. Both producers and private sector representatives have completed their preparations before the green tea campaign.

Situation of Producers Who Do Not Prune Tea Plants

Tea producers who have not carried out the necessary pruning in their tea cultivation areas in previous years will not be able to sell tea at the factories and tea buying points belonging to the General Directorate of Tea Enterprises (ÇAYKUR). This situation demonstrates the impact of competition between the private sector and ÇAYKUR.

Tea Harvesting and Quality

Resul Okumuş, owner of a private sector tea factory, emphasized that citizens should harvest their own tea, stating that this would increase the quality of tea and keep the income generated in the region. Okumuş also mentioned the use of new machines for tea harvesting.

Changes in Payment Methods

Pointing out that in recent years, the private sector’s practice of buying tea for cash in advance has disadvantaged both producers and the private sector, Okumuş expressed the need to return to the payment methods of the past. He emphasized that buying tea on credit would benefit both producers and factories.

Need for a New Tea Regulation

Okumuş stated that cash purchase in the tea sector has caused problems, advocating for the establishment of a new tea regulation. He said that this regulation should have a supportive structure for both tea producers and the private sector.
