Request for Free Zone from Ankara Chamber of Commerce
Ankara Chamber of Commerce has brought up the demand for the establishment of a free zone in the capital. Free zones stimulate trade by offering advantages to investors.
Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Chairman Gürsel Baran stated that free zones provide benefits such as encouraging investment and production for exports, accelerating foreign direct investments and technology transfer, improving exports, and increasing employment, and said, ‘We demand the establishment of a Free Zone in Ankara.’
Ankara’s Potential and Demand
Chairman Baran of ATO stated that Ankara, the capital city that contributes the most to the Turkish economy after Istanbul, is the fourth largest exporter and the third largest importer in Turkey with 12.4 billion dollars in exports and 17.7 billion dollars in imports, emphasizing that it is a complete production and trade center with its organized industrial zones and technoparks.
The Importance and Effects of Free Zones
Baran mentioned that the 18 Free Zones currently operating in Turkey realized 12.7 billion dollars in exports in 2023 and provided employment for 100 thousand people, highlighting that the determination of the location and borders of free zones is within the authority of the President. He emphasized that Ankara is the most suitable city for the establishment of Turkey’s 21st Free Zone.
Baran also pointed out that Ankara is a city that produces high value-added products as much as its production volume with its developing production capacity, organized industrial zones, and technoparks, stating, ‘Ankara is a center with intense migration due to its universities and industrial zones. The establishment of a free zone in Ankara will boost production, employment, and exports.’
