Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, the demolition of damaged buildings is rapidly progressing. Demolition operations and debris removal works across the province are ongoing with the intensive efforts of the teams. In Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquake, demolitions of severely damaged buildings are continuing alongside the construction of permanent residences.

Within the debris removal works coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, 94% of the identified 14 million square meters area has been cleared. While debris removal operations are ongoing, millions of cubic meters of debris left at designated dumping sites will be recycled and reclaimed.

  • 1 year and 3 months after the earthquake, the city center was captured by drones. It was observed that construction of earthquake-resistant homes is ongoing in the city, and many areas have been transformed into construction sites.
  • Hacı Murat Gök expressed, “We pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in the earthquake. We expect the rapid completion of earthquake-resistant homes and the return of people to their places.”
  • Habibe Kınalı stated, “We collectively survived a challenging earthquake. We hope for the swift removal of debris and the prompt relocation of people living in containers to permanent residences.”
