Increase in Chicken Meat Prices

Among the reasons for the 150% increase in chicken meat prices in the last 6 months, increases in feed prices and pressures on demand stand out. Butchers mention that the rise in costs is reflected to consumers.

Export Restrictions and Their Effects

The restrictive measures on chicken meat exports imposed by the Ministry of Trade aim to maintain the supply-demand balance in the domestic market. It is expected that these restrictions will keep price increases under control until the end of the year.

Opinions of Butchers

Butcher Murat Koca, speaking about the high prices of chicken meat at a butcher shop in Bahçelievler, states, ‘Due to the increases in costs and frequent price hikes, the prices of chicken meat have rapidly increased and this is reflected to consumers.’ He emphasizes the need for increased inspections and making penalties more deterrent.

  • Chicken schnitzel per kilogram: 159 TL
  • Chicken wings: 229 TL
  • Whole chicken: 118 TL

Prices may vary from district to district.

‘Increases in chicken prices are implemented before the cost-influencing factors like feed prices are increased. We have seen price hikes on a monthly basis, but recently there have been price hikes every three days. Increased inspections and deterrent penalties are necessary to address high prices.’
