Red Meat Production Statistics 2023

In 2023, red meat production increased by 8.8 percent to reach 2,384,047 tons, according to the data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

Red Meat Production Estimate:

According to TÜİK data, the red meat production estimate is calculated based on demographic data obtained from the Livestock Production Survey in Agricultural Enterprises. This calculation is based on the carcass weights between the ‘Butchered Animal Ratio’ and the number of animals slaughtered from the domestic population and imports.

2023 Red Meat Production Distribution:

• Cattle Meat Production: 1,670,606 tons (6.2 percent increase)
• Sheep Meat Production: 569,066 tons (16.3 percent increase)
• Goat Meat Production: 128,989 tons (11.3 percent increase)
• Buffalo Meat Production: 15,386 tons (13.3 percent increase)

Change Over the Last 10 Years:

Over the past decade, red meat production has shown a significant increase, reaching 2,384,047 tons in 2023 from the level of 1,123,059 tons in 2014.
