May Day Celebration in Balıkesir
The May Day Labor Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Balıkesir. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın and Altıeylül Municipality Mayor Hakan Şehirli joined the workers and celebrated the holiday among them.
A Peaceful Celebration in Balıkesir
May Day in Balıkesir was celebrated in peace and solidarity. After the unions gathered at Çarşamba Pazarı, a march was held to Kuvayi Milliye Square. Following body searches conducted by the police, workers and demonstrators were allowed into the square. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Akın also took his place in the square during the demonstrations accompanied by songs. Mayor Akın, who was greeted with great interest, chatted with the workers and took plenty of photos. Speaking exclusively to the IHA, Akın said, ‘Today, I am happy to be together with the workers in Balıkesir. I sincerely wish all our workers a happy May Day Labor Day,’
Participation of Unionist Mayor Şehirli
Altıeylül Municipality Mayor Hakan Şehirli, leveraging his experience from his unionist background, wore a union vest and celebrated May Day with the workers.
