May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day Celebrations in Mersin

May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Mersin. The event organized by the Mersin Labor and Democracy Platform started in front of the People’s Garden.

• March: Representatives of labor and civil servant unions, chambers, associations, political parties, and different groups walked from Ismet Inonu Boulevard to Republic Square. During the march, the workers chanted slogans and carried banners and signs, entering the square one by one. The two-hour march was followed by police officers as a security measure.
• Rally: Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer and district mayors greeted the participants. The rally, which included children, started with a moment of silence and continued with speeches. İrfan Gültekin, the President of Yol-İş Mersin Branch, made an emotional speech on behalf of the Mersin Labor and Democracy Platform.
• Closing: The May 1st celebrations ended with a memorable concert by the artist Ilkay Akkaya. Thousands of people danced the halay joyfully to drum and zurna music, reaching the peak of excitement.
