The streets of Antalya were colored with the enthusiastic participation of thousands of citizens to celebrate May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day. Despite the rain, the workers continued their determination to celebrate their holiday.
May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day was welcomed with great enthusiasm in Antalya, as it was across Turkey. Approximately 5,000 people participated in the march organized by Disk, Türk-İş Birleşik Kamu-İş, KESK, Antalya Chamber of Physicians, and TMMOB.
Security measures were taken along the walking route and at the rally area for the May 1st march starting from Aydın Kanza Park early in the morning. Citizens entering the area were individually searched by police officers affiliated with the Antalya Security Directorate.
To the accompaniment of drums and horns, thousands of people started marching and, after a 2-kilometer march, reached Republic Square with slogans. Citizens waving Turkish flags from the balconies of buildings along the street showed their support for the march.
Although a brief rain started during the march, citizens tried to protect themselves from the rain with banners and flags.
