May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day was celebrated with a procession and rally in the district of Edremit in Balıkesir. Theater actor Umut Durmaz attracted attention with his Zorro costume.
Details of the Procession and Rally
The May 1st procession, which started in front of the Edremit Tax Office, was attended by unions, civil society organizations, and political parties. The procession continued through Baraj Street and Azerbaijan Boulevard, ending at the Martyr Hamdi Bey Square. Edremit Mayor Mehmet Ertaş and municipal staff also supported the celebrations.
- Workers gathered in the square with Turkish flags and NGO banners.
- Ceyda Uzunkaya, the General Representative of DİSK Genel-İş, and Zeki Tiryaki, the President of Eğitim İş, gave speeches.
- Local artists performed concerts.
- Thousands of workers, union representatives, NGOs, and political party members attended the program.
Edremit Mayor Mehmet Ertaş congratulated the workers’ holiday and emphasized their support for the laborers. Ertaş stated that they will continue to defend the rights of the workers.
During the organized events, theater actor Umut Durmaz stated that he participated in 1 May activities by wearing a Zorro costume to draw attention to theater and cinema workers.
