Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made important statements regarding Turkey’s foreign policy agenda. Fidan announced that Turkey has decided to intervene in the case brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Turkey-Indonesia Relations and Cooperation
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan shared important details about Turkey-Indonesia relations after his meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. He expressed that an agreement was reached on establishing a mechanism in the ‘2+2’ format involving defense and foreign ministers from both countries. He also mentioned that Turkish contracting companies are aimed to be involved in the construction process of Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara.
Minister Fidan stated that comprehensive negotiations for a trade and economic cooperation agreement between Turkey and Indonesia are ongoing, and emphasized the desire for increasing defense industry cooperation. Furthermore, he highlighted their support for Indonesia’s sensitivity and stance on the Palestine issue.
The Palestine Issue and International Relations
Highlighting Turkey’s stance on the Palestine issue and its role in international relations, Minister Fidan mentioned efforts to gain more recognition for Palestine in the international arena. Fidan announced that Turkey has decided to intervene in the case brought by South Africa at the ICJ to mobilize the international community against the crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.
Minister Fidan drew attention to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and emphasized the need for the international community to more effectively combat Israel’s oppression. He expressed the necessity for Palestine to receive more support in the international community and for the initiation of a resolution process.
