President of the Kilis Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, Güven Özdemir, emphasized that agricultural workers and farmers work to contribute to the country’s economy and agriculture on May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day, saying, “While everyone celebrates on Labor Day, farmers continue to work in the field to contribute to the country’s agriculture. Farmers do not have a holiday. The farmers’ holiday is whenever they bring money home, that day is their happiest day and their holiday. While everyone is resting at home, farmers and producers are continuing to produce in the field,” he said.

Seedlings of Zabaran Eggplant and Pepper Meet the Soil

Özdemir stated that the seedlings of zabaran eggplant, the region’s registered product, met the soil on May 1st, saying, “Our farmers did not stand still and planted pepper and registered eggplant seedlings into the soil on May 1st. In Kilis, which ranks 2nd in pepper production in Turkey, pepper seedlings also met the soil. Farmers have neither a holiday nor a vacation,” he said.

“While everyone is on vacation at home, we are working here” Farmer Cuma Aygün stated that Kilis producers are working on May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day throughout Turkey, saying, “While everyone is on vacation at home due to May 1st, we are working here for the economy.
