A emotional funeral ceremony was held for 5-year-old Edanur Gezer, who lost her life by falling into a puddle in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul, at the Kıraç Cemevi in Esenyurt. The grieving mother was seen standing with difficulty, while the father, who is in prison, also attended the funeral on leave.

Statements from Governor Davut Gül

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated, “Unfortunately, our child has lost her life. We also came to the funeral ceremony in Esenyurt. May Allah grant patience to the family. Due to the incident of death, there are automatically initiated legal proceedings by the prosecutor’s office. The subsequent legal process will continue there. Whether there is negligence, fault, or whose fault it is will be determined in this legal process,” he said.

Governor Davut Gül extended his condolences to the grieving mother Nurcan Gezer at the funeral and experienced heart-wrenching moments with her cries. Emotional moments were experienced while carrying the coffin on their shoulders.

The grieving mother Nurcan Gezer, wailing, said, “The security guards came and said, ‘Don’t light a fire here, light the fire in the barbecue.’ Since the child was missing, they all dispersed to search for the child. One of the security guards came near the well, stretched his head and said, ‘Your child is here, inside it.’ You know it is deep, so why aren’t you doing something?” she cried out loud.

Eda’s uncle, Selçuk Yaşar, who pulled her out of the puddle, said, “We were having a family picnic. I saw her lying on top of the well. I pulled her out and saw her lips were purple. There was no protection around, it was a known water accumulation. No one came and said there is a well here. The depth was pulling me anyway. We want justice to be served,” he said.
