Edanur Gezer Funeral Ceremony

5-year-old Edanur Gezer lost her life by falling into a puddle at Menekşe Sahil Park in Küçükçekmece Fatih Mahallesi. While the cries of the grieving mother Nurcan Gezer shook the hearts, a funeral ceremony was held at the Kıraç Cemevi in Esenyurt.

Participants and Ceremony Details

Attending the ceremony were Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, the family, and the father who is currently in prison on leave. Governor Gül stood by the grieving mother during the funeral to offer support. Following the funeral prayer, Edanur Gezer was buried in the Esenyurt Cemetery.

Statements by Authorities

In a statement after the incident, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said, “Unfortunately, our child lost her life. The judicial process will continue. Whether there was neglect or fault will be revealed during the legal process. Additionally, the needs of the family will also be followed up.” Grieving mother Nurcan Gezer expressed her pain and demanded justice.

Grieving mother Nurcan Gezer: “The security guards came and said, ‘Don’t light a fire here.’ They all scattered thinking there was no child. Is searching for a child as easy as one or two? There was a security guard. The security guard went to the side of the well and said, ‘Your child is here inside.’ Whoever is responsible for that place should face the consequences.”

Uncle Selçuk Yaşar: “We were having a picnic as a family. She was lying on top of the well. There was no protection around it. I grabbed her with one hand holding onto the ground. We want justice to be served.”
