The “Artificial Intelligence in the Second Century” panel was organized at the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO), with the participation of many experts in the field. The Zafer Çağlayan Assembly Hall at the Ankara Chamber of Industry hosted the “Artificial Intelligence in the Second Century” panel. Various topics such as “Software” and “Industry 4.0” were discussed in the panel, with the participation of many experts in the field. Additionally, the integration of artificial intelligence into human life and its application in the field of law were also discussed during the panel.

The panel was attended by ASO Council Member Oğuz Yılmaz, Prof. Dr. Olgun Değirmenci, Dr. Cenk Deniz Mendi, Dr. Zümrüt Müftüoğlu, Serkan Kalınöz who works as a technical manager at a private company, as well as students and academics involved in these fields.

Nuray Başar, the Chairperson of the ASO Software Industry Committee, expressed pride in the committee becoming one of the largest committees of the Ankara Chamber of Industry with nearly 600 members, thanks to the events and visits conducted, and the establishment of the “35-Computer Industry Software Occupation Committee” for professionals with Nace code 62.01.01 five years ago.

Başar emphasized that the committee not only engages in sectoral activities but also takes the lead in social responsibility. She stated, “In this context, we prioritize gender equality. We conducted a preliminary study for the signing of the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles contract and presented it to our board of directors. With the support and efforts of our board, we signed the Weps contract. For the first time in Turkey, a Chamber signed this contract. We are trying to generate projects with the working group we have formed. The Weps contract is a source of pride for our Committee.”

Başar noted that digitalization is present in every aspect of life and stressed that they are in the era of innovative technologies. She said, “Artificial intelligence has become a significant agenda in both our daily lives and professional careers. We have started working to adapt ourselves to the technology of the age and to be able to produce for our country.”

Başar also emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence in various aspects of life, stating, “Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence has the power to fundamentally change all aspects of life such as security, health, agriculture, energy, mining, transportation, industry, and product marketing. We increasingly feel the presence of artificial intelligence in our lives every day, which is considered the most significant scientific development in human history.”

Başar highlighted the initiation of studies on the artificial intelligence roadmap in Turkey and stressed the need for accompanying actions in terms of workforce, education, and technology. She listed various topics such as lifelong learning, compliance of companies with Industry 4.0, university-industry collaboration, keeping the curriculum up-to-date in schools, and easy access to finance.

Prof. Dr. Olgun Değirmenci mentioned differences in the direction taken after the industrial revolution in the United States and the United Kingdom, emphasizing the importance of approach in shaping economic outcomes.

Dr. Cenk Mendi explained the role of their artificial intelligence institute in coordinating R&D efforts and catalyzing the artificial intelligence ecosystem, stating that their responsibilities are outlined in the Presidency’s artificial intelligence strategies.

Dr. Zümrüt Müftüoğlu expressed concerns about the overshadowing of the opportunities of artificial intelligence due to excessive focus on its challenges in recent years, particularly during the pandemic, highlighting the importance of integrating artificial intelligence technologies into our daily lives.

Serkan Kalınöz addressed the fear and resistance towards technology and the difficulty in adapting to it, emphasizing the importance of improving processes and making tasks easier for everyone, especially the workforce at the bottom.

Oğuz Yılmaz highlighted the importance of compliance with the European Union acquis. He pointed out the developments in the field of artificial intelligence worldwide and stated that Turkey has made significant strides in this area.
