Turkish Technology Companies Launch National Technology Initiative in Qatar
Web Summit, one of the world’s most important technology and entrepreneurship-themed events, is being held for the first time in Qatar. Organized in collaboration with 5 development agencies working under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, 24 technology ventures from Turkey are participating in the event. As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Event Participation Call conducted in collaboration with Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA), Ankara Development Agency (ANKARAKA), Izmir Development Agency (IZKA), Bursa Eskisehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA), and West Mediterranean Development Agency (BAKA), Turkey set up the Turkey Island where ventures showcase their products and technologies at Web Summit in Qatar. Additionally, 25 different entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholders from Turkey are also attending Web Summit. Ventures have the opportunity to showcase their products on the global stage for 3 days, while participating in competitions, investor meetings, mentorship sessions, and panels to gain valuable opportunities to grow their businesses. Despite being held for the first time in the capital, Doha, the event is receiving significant attention and tickets are sold out. There is particularly strong interest from Turkish ventures targeting the Middle East and Africa markets. Approximately a hundred companies from Turkey are participating in the event. Among the ventures present at the Turkey Island are those offering innovative solutions in various fields such as logistics, education, health, agriculture, financial technologies, digital marketing, and AI-supported content production. Ventures are showcasing innovative products such as advanced biomaterials used as implants, software offering digital solutions for seed cultivation processes, flexible solar panels, smart textiles collecting data from the skin, micro-mobility vehicles powered by solar energy, and digital platforms for managing textile waste. Web Summit has been organizing similar technology and entrepreneurship-themed events in other parts of the world for a long time. The event provides opportunities for investors, potential customers, and other entrepreneurs to establish a collaboration network and effectively present their products to the global arena, making it one of the best in its field worldwide. Among the companies selected from the applications within the scope of the Global Entrepreneurship Event Participation Call, participation was secured at Web Summit, the world’s largest technology conference held in Lisbon, Portugal, in November 2023, the Slush event held in Helsinki, Finland, on November 30 – December 1, 2023, and last month’s CES (Consumer Electronic Show) held in Las Vegas. The Web Summit Qatar event will run from February 26 to 29, 2024.
