The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality installed 25 charging stations at different locations to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicle charging due to the rising usage of electric vehicles in recent years. With the widespread use of electric vehicles in Turkey, the need for electric vehicle charging stations has arisen. The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality worked to strengthen the charging station network for both drivers of electric vehicles and the electric vehicles it owns. A total of 18 charging stations were installed in 10 parking lots under the responsibility of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. Additionally, 7 more charging stations were established within the municipality to meet the charging needs of the municipality-owned electric vehicles. These charging stations not only promote the use of electric vehicles but also contribute to reducing air pollution caused by fossil fuels and fuel savings.

34 vehicles can be charged simultaneously. Providing information about the installation of electric vehicle charging stations conducted by Antalya Environmental Agriculture Livestock Trade Corporation (ANÇET), a subsidiary of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Electrical Engineer Esra Seren Serter stated that 34 vehicles can be serviced simultaneously at the 25 charging stations established as part of the activities aimed at achieving a neutral carbon goal. Serter also mentioned that the installation of charging stations will continue in the city center and districts.

“An important step in combating climate change” Lokman Atasoy, Advisor to the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, expressed that with the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, they have taken an important step in combating climate change and improving the air quality in Antalya. Highlighting that Antalya has the highest number of vehicles per capita, Atasoy stated, “In Antalya, where there is one motor vehicle for every two people, carbon emissions resulting from fossil fuel consumption are quite high and have significant effects on air pollution. We should increase the use of environmentally friendly low-emission electric vehicles. The more widespread the electric vehicle charging stations they need become, the more their usage will increase. This will significantly contribute to improving air quality and our neutral carbon goal.”

“There is a significant difference in cost” Cem Özen, an electric vehicle user, said, “There is a significant cost difference compared to fossil fuels when it comes to electric vehicles. Electric vehicle charging stations are becoming widespread in many parts of Turkey. We are happy that the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is also working on this issue. With a mobile app, we can identify the locations where we want to charge our vehicles.”
