The Confederation of Industry and Commerce (SANKON), an international economic non-governmental organization with over 25,000 domestic and international member companies, has set its export target to Latin American countries at $3 billion for the year 2024.

Headquartered in Ankara and with representations in the capitals of the 193 member states of the United Nations, SANKON operates regularly to contribute to economic, commercial, import, and export relations between Turkey and world nations. It engages in activities across Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Turkic states in Central Asia, Europe, Asia, Pacific, and Caribbean countries. SANKON organizes physical and online business forums, conferences, and meetings between Turkey and other nations, facilitating significant contributions to the economy. The organization sends Turkish companies abroad and brings foreign companies to Turkey, boasting more than 25,000 domestic and international member companies.

SANKON’s Deputy Chairman and businessman Uğur Çelebioğlu announced the export target of $3 billion to 18 Latin American countries, stating, “The Latin American region, with its 629 million population, approximately $5 trillion gross domestic product, and rising important economies like Brazil and Mexico, presents significant opportunities with its rich natural and underground resources. Despite factors such as geographical distance and mutual lack of information keeping relations below their potential for many years, the ties with Latin American countries have gained significant momentum in recent years. This change has also reflected in commercial relations, with various agreements made in many sectors following a win-win policy. We can cite Turkish TV series as an example of sector diversity. This shows that there is cooperation potential with Latin American states in many sectors. Turkish TV series have recently become widely watched in this region, playing an effective role in promoting our country and positively contributing to our economic and trade relations. At this point, Turkey has a free trade agreement (FTA) with Chile and Venezuela in the region. Besides the countries in the region, we also attach importance to relationships with regional organizations aiming for economic integration and creating a common market, such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), and Pacific Alliance. We aim to further develop our cooperation with these global actors in the future.”

Export goal to Latin American countries: $3 billion
Çelebioğlu mentioned, “Our member companies at SANKON aim to export $3 billion to Latin American countries in 2024 across various sectors. As an organization, we plan to hold physical and online business forum conferences in collaboration with the embassies of Latin American countries in Ankara to contribute to economic, commercial, import, and export relations between Turkey and Latin American states. As Turkish companies, we are establishing and conducting economic and trade relations with Latin American states through the collaboration between SANKON and the embassies of Latin American states in Ankara. Our President Ferudun Cevahiroğlu, with the support and contributions of the Republic of Turkey government, will soon visit many countries on the Latin American continent with numerous companies operating in various fields to contribute to economic and trade relations between the Republic of Turkey and Latin American states. The SANKON organization operates through representations in all 18 states in the Latin American continent. The 18 Latin American countries where we operate are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, and Venezuela.”
